“36 out of 49 charred bodies could not be identified, need DNA tests”

The charred bodies of 36 fire victims of the fire tragedy at BM Container Depot in Chattogram's Sitakunda could not be identified by the family members, said Mominur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Chattogram.

Only 13 bodies have been identified so far, which have been handed over to relatives, said Mominur at a press conference, held at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) this evening (June 5, 2022), reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.

The DC said DNA samples will be collected tomorrow to ascertain the identities of the other 36 victims. The rest 36 bodies will be handed over to the relatives after DNA tests confirm their identities.

He said a total of 163 injured people are in CMCH, Chattogram General Hospital, and private hospitals.

The DC also requested the family of the missing people to come to the CMCH booth instead of searching them in different places.

A fire broke out at at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram last night which led to subsequent explosions leading to the death of 49 people while more than 200, including police and fire service personnel sustained burn injuries.
