Ton-up Tamim bats entire day in warm-up
Bangladesh's star opener Tamim Iqbal hit a hundred, but struggling left-handed batter Mominul Haque could not even open his account on the opening day of their ongoing three-day warm-up match against CWI President's XI at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua today.
Tamim, who has recently received a lot of stick from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the media over lack of clarity on his T20I future, stitched together a 141-run second-wicket stand with Nazmul Hossain Shanto after losing his opening partner Mahmudul Hasan Joy early in the morning.
Shanto also picked up a fifty but departed after a 99-ball 54 off a Preston McSween delivery. Bangladesh then lost two more wickets -- those of Mominul and Liton Das -- in quick succession as they were reduced to 152 for four.
Mominul, who stepped down from the role of the Test captain just ahead of the series to focus on his batting, did not see any turn of fortune as he departed without even troubling the scorers after being at the crease only for six deliveries.
Liton, who is leading the side in the practice game in absence of regular Test skipper Shakib Al Hasan, was only able to score a 19-ball 4 before edging one back to the keeper.
At the close of day's play, Bangladesh scored 274 for the loss of six wickets after 82.5 overs with Tamim unbeaten on 140 off 240, featuring 19 fours and a six.
