BCB still hopeful of seeing Windies series telecast
With less than four days before the first Test of the two-match series between Bangladesh and West Indies, scheduled to take place in Antigua from June 16, it remains uncertain whether the Tigers fans could watch the games live on TV.
Total Sports Marketing holds the broadcast rights of the West Indies-Bangladesh series, where Bangladesh are set to play two Tests -- part of the ICC Test Championship -- three T20I and three ODIs but no TV channel has officially acquired the broadcast rights yet.
Normally the two local Bangladeshi channels T Sports and Gazi TV broadcast the Tigers' games. However, the two channels have not yet come up with an agreement to telecast the games.
According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) chairperson of the media committee, Tanvir Ahmed Titu, the BCB can hardly do anything to resolve the broadcast crisis.
"When we take part in an away series, everything regarding the broadcast related issues depends on the host board or the rights holders. What we can hardly do is that we can request the West Indies cricket board but that would only be unofficial since there is no room for the BCB to officially request," Titu told the media on Saturday.
However, the BCB director is hopeful that at least one of the two Bangladeshi channels would come up and telecast the game since there is still some time left before the first Test.
"I hope that our TV channels which generally show live cricket will step up and communicate with the broadcasters to find a resolution. It's not only the cricket board, we all want to see the Bangladesh cricket team's match on TV but it solely depends on the hosts broadcasters. I hope that TV channel owners will find a way."
