There is Only One Earth: Celebration of World Environment Day 2022 at Agami Education Foundation

Life is Fun (LiF), the science education initiative of Agami Education Foundation (AEF) took the leadership to celebrate World Environment Day once again with full of amazements.

LiF organized a series of activities for Agami-supported schools in collaboration with AEF School Program, Teachers' Training Program and Improved English Teaching Project in sponsorship with Daraz. Children ranging from 8 to 14 years participated in tree plantation, essay writing, speech competition, wall magazine work and live engagements on cultural program and pop quizzes on environmental issues.

Like other events, AEF called for participation from all the underprivileged students and teachers in its 17 supported schools to engage themselves in awareness building activities related with saving environment involving kids to participate and put down their thoughts on the theme in writing, in speeches and in their artwork. Among all the schools, nine participating schools were Aalok Shikkhaloy, Sohag Swapnadhara Patshala, PSD Pearabag School, PSD Nandipara School, Empyrean Hope School, Switch Tahmina banu Bidyanekatan, Swapnanagar Biddyanikatan, Laxmipur Shimanto Bazar Primary school and Swapnakoli School.

According to the details and expectations that were communicated for the event, 14 groups of students (2-3 in each group) participated in speech competition expressing their knowledge and thoughts on environmental pollution and how to save the earth. Preliminary competitions were held online to have two finalist groups from primary and secondary age groups who participated in person at AEF office on the day for finals. The speakers did wonders in expressing how they conceptualize pollution and our roles in mitigating the impacts.

Eighteen groups of students from the nine schools produced amazing artworks that made the environment so alive and environmental problems were such clearly vivid in all of those that seemed like wonders in reality. The amazing wall magazines picturized water pollution, industrial discharge, air pollution, deforestation, soil pollution, health issues, healthy environment and so many unspoken manifestations of the thoughts in the little minds that one would imagine their minds sob every day at the deteriorating situation of our surroundings. And all the more those make us feel the essence of the theme that we have to save the environment for our future generations.

Essays were composed on the theme by 52 children from the participating schools that also nurtured their composition skills in both languages. All the activities of the children were evaluated by university academics and high-profile development professionals. Prize distribution ceremony was also held on the day of the event at AEF office.

Tree plantation was administered by School Program team in eight schools situated in Dhaka, Cumilla, Sylhet, Natore, Khagrachhori and Jhenaidah while 211 trees were planted in the premises of these schools to be maintained by the students and teachers themselves to nurture a green environment.

Agami strives to create a better future through education and works for the well-being and betterment of underprivileged school communities. Like in each of its initiatives, schools supported by Agami showed tremendous level of enthusiasm and cooperation in engaging their students in collaborative participation in myriads of activities that were offered to them on the occasion of World Environment Day 2022. The wholehearted support from the schools and engaging participation from the students made the efforts of "Life is Fun" a great success.
