Ctg getting new master plan after 27 years

Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) has started working on a new master plan after 27 years, to build a planned port city.

The "Preparation of Chattogram Metropolitan Master Plan (2020-2041)" is scheduled to be implemented by June 2024, at a cost of Tk 33 crore.

Under this, the structure plan, action plan for three designated areas, stormwater drainage and flood control plan, long-term development strategy for communication and transportation system, and environment management plan will be formulated for 22 years.

In 1995, CDA formulated the last master plan for Chattogram for 20 years. This master plan had four parts such as structural, urbanisation, transport and drainage system.

It expired in 2015.

Town planners have welcomed the initiative to formulate a new plan.

They said it is very important for the city's development activities and the plan addresses all of them.

Shahinul Islam Khan, former chief town planner of CDA, said, "The master plan is an official document, which will mention where the roads will be constructed and where the work will be done."

It will be made for people so their opinion should be taken while planning it. Otherwise, it's not possible to create an effective plan, he added.

Zahirul Alam Dobha, chairman of CDA, said the subtle errors in the previous plan and detailed area plan (DAP) would be corrected in the new one.

He said the latest technology will be used in this master plan. A geological survey will be done under the plan in which the quality of soil will be known. This plan will also ensure the rational use of land.

This will be the third master plan since the establishment of CDA. The first one was drawn up in 1961. The second one for 20 years was formulated in 1995. In addition, DAP was made in 2006.
