Sona Mohapatra, the singer of "Ambarsariya" fame, claimed that she had received rape and death threats after raising her voice against Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. The singer had reportedly called out on the Bhaijaan of Bollywood for his "misogyny" and his statement regarding Priyanka Chopra—after Chopra quit "Bharat", the Salman Khan starrer.
According to various Indian media outlets, Salman Khan had stated that Priyanka Chopra had chosen to leave behind the "biggest film of her career" to marry her boyfriend singer-actor Nick Jonas. "Usually people leave their husbands for this,", he said in a statement back in 2019.
In response to this, Sona had tweeted, "Priyanka Chopra has better things to do in life, real men to hang out with and more importantly, girls to inspire with her journey."
Standing strong by her words, Sona revealed in an interview that she had been brutally trolled and threatened for her comments against Salman.
"I had gone through the most hideous trolling, including death threats and literally shit being delivered in dabbas (lunch boxes) in my studio, because I had called out Salman Khan for his misogyny and statements. My statements had gone viral," she had said in that interview.
The singer further informed that this harassment continued for two months. Sona also said that her photographs were morphed and posted on adult websites and that she received threats of "gang rape".
