A tragic miracle: Woman gives birth before breathing her last in road accident
In a tragic event that unfolded in Trishal area of Mymensingh, an eight-months-pregnant woman gave birth to a baby girl today (July 16, 2022) before succumbing to her injuries after a truck ran her over while she was crossing a road.
Two others – the woman's husband and daughter – were also dead in the accident.
The newborn, however, survived miraculously, reports our Mymensingh correspondent quoting Md Main Uddin, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir Alam (35), Ratna Begum (26) and Jannat (6), residents of Raymoni village under Mothbari union in Trishal upazila, said the OC.
The incident happened this noon at the Court Building area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway when the family were on their way to have Ratna's ultrasonogram done. A truck ran them over when they were crossing the road, leaving them dead on the spot.
The impact apparently pushed the baby out of the mother's womb, and was delivered on the spot. Locals rescued the newborn and rushed her to Trishal Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctor referred her to Community Based Medical College Hospital, Bangladesh (CBMCHB) in Mymensingh Sadar Upazila, the police official said.
The baby is doing well, the OC also said.
Police recovered the bodies from the spot and handed them over to family members. The truck has also been seized but its driver managed to flee, he added.
After conducting X-ray, it was found that the newborn had fracture in her right shoulder but her overall condition is good, said the girl's uncle Sharif Uddin quoting the doctors at emergency department of CBMCHB.
