Atiqul Islam made chairman of Manarat Int’l University Board of Trustees
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam has been made the chairman of Manarat International University's board of trustees.
The government today followed the order of President Abdul Hamid and reconstituted the Board of Trustees of Manarat International University naming Atiqul as chair.
The new 13-member Board of Trustee was formed in a meeting held around 3pm at the Secondary and Higher Education Division (SHED).
Prof Sadeka Halim of Sociology department of Dhaka University, who is among the members of the trustee board attended the meeting and said, "The government reconstituted the trustee board as the university was found to be involved in anti-state activities, violating the law and penal code."
Prof Sadeka Halim, said the previous board was demolished following Section 35 (7), the Private Universities Act.
Other board of trustee members include -- former senior secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamun, former senior secretary Sajjadul Hasan, National University Vice-Chancellor Moshiur Rahman, DU International Business Department Honourary Prof Khandkar Bazlul Haque, Canadian University of Bangladesh Prof Mohammad Ali Arafat, National Mental Health Institute and Hospital Prof Mekhla Sarker, former president and general secretary of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) Engineer Md Abdur Sabur, DU Law department Prof Salim Mahmud, Hasumonir Pathshala President Marufa Akhtar Poppy, Bangladesh Mahila Samity Member Israt Jahan Nasreen and Social Improvement Society Executive Director Mihir Kanti Ghoshal.
Earlier on September 6, the SHED issued a letter, inviting 23 personalities to recast the board of trustees, saying in consent of President Abdul Hamid.
