Chhatra Union leaders protest educational materials’ price hike
The leaders and activists of central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra Union today (November 14, 2022) protested the recent price hikes of educational materials and daily essentials.
At a gathering held at the base of the Raju Sculpture Memorial in the university premises this afternoon, they stood up by holding arum and banana leaves, reports our DU correspondent.
They were protesting by displaying their messages on the leaves -- since before the invention of paper, people used to write on them in ancient times.
They demanded to decrease the price of educational materials immediately. Otherwise, they will form a mammoth protest against the government along with the public.
Protestors said that a number of book publishers previously said that they had no intention of publishing books before the Amar Ekushey Book Fair since the price of the paper is high.
If it occurs, there will be great harm, said the protesting students, adding that the students are having a hard time paying for their education.
The organisation's leaders claimed that this government is not at all supportive to education. They are businessmen's friends since they make decisions that are in their best interests, the leaders said.
The rally was conducted by Mahir Shahriar Reza, assistant general secretary of Chhatra Union and presided by Dipok Sil, general secretary of the organisation.
