'Omar Faruk er Ma' to release on Victory Day
Liberation War-based short film, "Omar Faruk er Ma"—which revolves around the freedom fighter, Omar Faruk and his mother—will be screened in various districts and upazilas on the occasion of Victory Day. The film will have its world premiere on BTV and BTV World at 5:25 pm the following day, December 17.
Director Zahidur Rahman Biplob shared that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has stated that the film "Omar Faruk er Ma" should be screened for free, as it will give the new generation a glimpse into the lives of freedom fighters. The premiere show of the film took place at the Bangladesh Film Archive on December 3.
The film showcases the longing of a mother, who is awaiting the return of her child—who has gone to fight in the Liberation War. The story follows Omar Faruk, who never returned from the war, even after promising his mother that he would come back soon to eat with her. Later, when Omar dies in the Liberation War, his mother is not able to believe the news and continues to wait for her son to return.
In the film, Sayed Babu played the role of Omar Faruk, while Dilara Zaman played the role of his mother. Apart from them, the film has also cast Bonna Mirza, Shahed Sharif Khan, Khairul Alam Shabuj and Naznin Hasan Chumki, among others.
