Archer Rubel hits career-best 678

Bangladeshi archers made a good start in Asia Cup World Ranking Tournament Stage 3 as Hakim Ahmed Rubel finished top among 184 archers in the qualification round of individual recurve bow event in Sharjah today.

Rubel scored his career-best of 678 out of 720, eclipsing his previous best of 666 he made during the DHAKA Asian Archery Championship in 2021 and, thus, he will play the round of 16 after getting byes in the first and second matches of the elimination round.

Rubel's teammate Sagar Islam also did remarkably well by becoming fifth with his career-best score of 663, four more than his previous best of 659, and moved into the round of 16, while newcomer Mishad Prodhan finished 28th with a score of 628 and will play against Ma Hing Kin of Hong Kong in the first match of the elimination round.

Rubel, Sagar, and Mishad together finished 4th in the men's recurve team event, and are set to play against hosts UAE in the last eight, after getting the bye in the first match of the elimination round.

In the individual compound event, Roksana Akter also made her career-best score of 678 out of 720 to finish 11th among 28 archers. Roksana's previous best was 676. Roksana will now play against Wong Yuk Sheung in the round of 16.

Roksana's teammates Bonna Akter and Pushpita Jaman finished 13th and 18th by scoring 675 and 663 out of 720, respectively, and they will face Sri Lankan Wijesinghe Karunaratne and Ong Madeleine Xue Li, respectively.
