Sadia soars
Since the release of Shihab Shaheen's web-film "Mayashalik" on December 19, featuring Apurba and Sadia Ayman in the lead roles, the audience were charmed by 'Sara', played by Sadia Ayman.
Innocent, jolly and a mischievous in nature, Sadia brought 'Sara' to life on the screen. The actor has also received the BCRA 2022 Best Actress (Critics) award from Bangladesh Cultural Reporters Association (BCRA) yesterday for "Mayashalik".
The actress will also be appearing in two more OTT works -- "Kabadi" released on Bioscope and "Internsheep" on Chorki.
This is the first time you worked for an OTT platform. How was the experience?
Jahan Sultana, the screenplay writer of the production, had envisioned me playing Sara when she penned the script. She was impressed with my performance in the Mizanur Rahman Aryan directorial tele-fiction "Phooler Namey Naam".
I got the role following an audition, and the overall experience has been amazing. I have worked with Apurba before and his helpful attitude is what I admire the most.
This is my first time working with Shihab Shaheen. Imust say, he was never willing to give up on me, even on days that I felt I was not able to deliver my best.
You are also set to make your silver screen debut with Gias Uddin Selim's "Kajol Rekha".
I had worked in ad films before Channel i offered me my first telefilm. I had a smooth transition from ads to dramas then to streaming platforms and finally, the silver screen.
"Kajol Rekha" is very close to my heart, as it is my first film.
Did you always aspire to be an actor?
I am a law student, and never thought of becoming an actor. To be honest, I was not very good at acting in my early days either. However, with time and lots of auditions, I was finally able to push myself upwards.
Opportunities don't come easily. So, I wish to grab them with both hands when they knock on my door.
Who has inspired you the most in your journey?
Jaya Ahsan inspires me. Her works, both nationally and internationally, connote how strong and impactful she is as a woman. Aupee Karim and Shila Ahmed are also two strong women that I admire.
Being Bengali, I love historic and period dramas, so I would like to lend my talents to such projects as well.
What would you share with your audience?
I am really thankful for their love and appreciation. Whenever a fan recognises me by the characters that I played, I feel validated.
For that, thee have my heartfelt gratitude – I plan to continue delivering good performances for them.
