Asking for the freedom to tell stories, film industry stakeholders, media and lawmakers attended the FAB Fest 2022 held at the premises of Bangla Academy yesterday.

Law minister Anisul Huq, screenwriter, director and producer Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, filmmaker Kamar Ahmad Simon, filmmaker and Applebox Ltd founder Piplu R Khan, and Alliance Laws co-head barrister Moin Ghani, among many others were present at the event.

Organised by Film Alliance Bangladesh, FAB Fest 2022 spearheaded a session titled "Bangladeshi Cinema at a Crossroad: How Reform Can Propel Us".

Beginning with the freedom to tell stories, directors and artists urge the lawmakers to create a film commission which will be a 'one stop solution' handling all the problems of the film industry.

From shooting, production works, and postproduction works to promotional works, distribution and screening, everything will be monitored by the proposed film commission.

Directors and artistes at the Fest shared that with the freedom of telling stories, they can produce much more creative works. They believe that this will aid the nation in economic and cultural development.

For that, the stakeholders of the industry affirmed the necessity of an official professional structure that will ensure their rights.

With that in mind, noted director and actor Tariq Anam Khan proposed the 8 demands of the film industry. Some notable demands include, reviewing certification act, digital security act, pornography act.

Moreover, they believe that the censor board illogically delays film releases, which goes against the 'freedom to tell stories'. Artistes and directors demand that the films like "Shonibar Bikel" that are stuck waiting for censor board certification, to be immediately released.
