Shanto stars as Sylhet get back to winning ways
Sylhet Strikers opener Najmul Hossain Shanto smashed his second fifty of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League to help take his side to a seven-wicket win over Chattogram Challengers at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Shanto hit six fours and two sixes in his 44-ball 60-run knock while chasing Chattogram's 174 for six. His second fifty of the tournament saw him top the run-getters charts as he crossed Fortune Barishal skipper Shakib Al Hasan, sitting top with 350 runs, while Shakib has 306 runs under his belt.
The 24-year-old, however, couldn't see his team through as was stumped when he missed one coming down the ground off Nihaduzzaman.
Latest recruit to arrive for Sylhet recruit, Ryan Burl heaved away some lusty blows in a 16-ball 41-run blitz and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim used his experience and saw his side through with an unbeaten 26-ball 41.
For a second straight time, Chattogram, who were very much in the contest throughout the match let it all slip away because of their subpar fielding as they dropped Burl twice and let some regulation saves through.
Earlier, Chattogram Challengers posted 174 for six after opting to bat first. Opener Mehedi Maruf and skipper Shuvagata Hom scored fifties to post a challenging total.
Maruf finally managed to get some runs as he hit seven fours and two sixes for his 40-ball 52 but it was Hom who did the damage smashing three sixes and three fours for his unbeaten 29-ball 54.
