Swastika Mukherjee says ‘fair skin’ was bad for her career
"Tasher Ghawr" famed actress, Swastika Mukherjee recently opened up about how her 'fair skin' had played a 'detrimental' factor in her career. In an interview with the media, the actress discussed how she was allegedly told she was 'not suitable' for the role of a rickshaw puller's wife and a village girl, due to her 'fair skin'.
The versatile actress also talked about how she is still recognised as a 'Bengali actress' and not an 'Indian actress'. She professed how the industry has created these stereotypes over the years.
In the interview, the actress noted, "Why such labels? Do we call an actor speaking in Hindi a Hindi actress? Are actors working in the Mumbai film industry identified by their places of origin? I had spoken about this in the past too. Is there any problem in referring to us as Indian actors? Why are actors from a certain region called out by the language?"
Swastika Mukherjee has received praise for her dynamic screen presence and versatility, over the last two decades. The actress will soon appear before the audience in the upcoming political thriller film, "Shibpur" and the family-drama film "Bijoyar Pore".
