‘Bangladesh will continue growing even after its graduation in 2026’
Bangladesh has achieved significant growth in trade and export despite the US-China trade war, the emergence of Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain Miah said today.
The trend will continue even after Bangladesh's graduation to a least developed country in 2026, he said.
But the country now needs to increase its internal capacity and strengthen focus on diversification and expansion of export products, he added.
Miah also said about 86 percent of Bangladesh's exports are based on readymade garments, for which the main markets are Europe and America. "To expand our exports, we have to explore non-traditional markets in the Middle East and Africa."
He made the comments while speaking at a seminar titled 'Contemporary global economic scenario: challenges and way forward for EPZ enterprises in Bangladesh' organised by Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) in Dhaka.
Bepza Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, also spoke at the event where Mohammad Abdur Razzaque, chairman of Research and Policy Integration for Development (RAPID), presented a keynote paper.
