Tigers find new lease on life as Shakib returns to dismiss centurion Roy
Before star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan returned to dismiss Jason Roy, the England opener registered his career's 12th century while laying a solid platform for England against Bangladesh in the second ODI of the three-match series in Mirpur today.
Roy's 124-ball 132, laced with 18 boundaries and a six, ended with him getting trapped in front by Shakib, who then took a catch off Taskin Ahmed to send new batter Will Jacks back to pavilion. After 37 overs, the visitors are 208 for five, with Moeen Ali at the crease with skipper Jos Buttler, playing comfortably and on course to reach his fifty.
This is second time in six outings Roy has scored a ton against the Tigers after his mammoth 153 at the 2019 ODI World Cup in Cardiff. His first century in four innings at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium now comes after the 113 in South Africa four innings prior.
Roy, who played rather cautiously given his reputation, frequently opted to reverse-sweep the Bangladesh spinners to good effect. However, he was lucky to have survived early on when he failed to connect a Shakib Al Hasan delivery that went on to shave past the off stump.
