Torture at IU: Sanjida, 4 other BCL activists suspended
Five students of Islamic University (IU), Kushtia including the vice president of the university unit Chhatra League Sanjida Chowdhury alias Antara, have been suspended on charge of torturing fellow student Phulpori Khatun.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the university's disciplinary committee this afternoon, two days after the High Court ordered the university to suspend the five students who tortured Phulpori, reports our Kushtia correspondent.
The other suspended students are Tabassum Islam, Israt Jahan alias Mim, Moabiya Jahan and Halima Khatun alias Urmi, confirmed Proctor Shahadat Hossain.
The proctor said the meeting was held in the vice-chancellor's office with VC Dr Sheikh Abdus Salam in the chair.
The meeting decided to suspend them and issue show cause notices asking them to reply in the next seven working days -- why no final action should be taken against them.
Meanwhile, Phulpori Khatun has applied for residency at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib hall. Provost of the hall Prof Mia Mohammad Rashiduzzman said Phulpori's application has been accepted.
