Affected building likely to be demolished: DSCC
The building that was damaged in the explosion in Siddikbazar may be demolished soon, said Haidar Ali, general manager (transport) of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Ali said there is a committee in the regional area of DSCC for declaring buildings "risky" which will inspect the incident site tomorrow. They will decide whether to keep the building or demolish it based on their assessment of its safety and structural integrity.
"In my opinion, if a 20-tonne heavy vehicle goes in front of the damaged building, it may collapse due to the shaking or vibrations. We have already informed the police to stop heavy vehicle movement on the road in front of the damaged building," Ali told journalists this evening.
He added that the pillars and columns of the building have collapsed and the roof has also slanted downwards, indicating that the building is not safe for occupancy.
"Seeing all these, it seems like the building has to be demolished. I have informed the members of the fire service of the risk of going inside the building," Ali said.
He said if the committee decides to demolish the building tomorrow, they will act accordingly.
