Gulistan blast
Why CTTC rules out terror attack
At least 19 persons were killed and over 100 injured after an explosion took place at a building in Gulistan's Siddikbazar area yesterday.
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police ruled out a terrorist attack or criminal incident, citing the following findings:
- No traces of explosives or any sort of fragments or IED circuits.
- No coloured or black smoke, indicating a "non-explosive" blast.
- Bodies bearing no marks of shrapnel injuries.
- Burn injuries above the waists of the injured, indicating gas existed at a height of around 3 to 5 feet, which is also a sign of methane gas blast.
