Zakir ruled out of Ireland series
Wicketkeeper-batter Zakir Hasan has been ruled out of the upcoming Ireland series after he suffered an injury in training at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu confirmed to The Daily Star.
The 25-year-old, who announced himself to the Test arena with a hundred against India last year, received his maiden ODI call-up following a decent run in the Bangladesh Premier League.
BCB had announced a 16-member squad for the first two ODIs and is yet to name a replacement for Zakir.
The Tigers arrived in Sylhet on Thursday and upon arrival, Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal went down with illness as the 33-year-old was suffering from fever. But the left-handed opener is expected to play the first ODI on Saturday.
Ireland got their preparations off to a good start with a 78-run win against BCB XI in their only warm-up match on Wednesday.
