Rony named as replacement for Zakir
Right-handed batter Rony Talkudar has been named as a replacement for the injured Zakir Hasan for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Ireland starting on Saturday, the 32-year-old confirmed to The Daily Star on Thursday.
Rony, who made a return to the national fold following a gap of almost eight years, impressed in Bangladesh's clean sweep of England in the recently concluded T20I series and is set to fly to Sylhet tomorrow to join the squad. He is yet to make his ODI debut for Bangladesh.
Zakir Hasan has been ruled out of the upcoming Ireland series after he suffered an injury in training at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu confirmed to The Daily Star.
National Team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said: "Zakir injured his left thumb while batting in the nets today. An X-ray has shown a minor undisplaced fracture which could take around two weeks to recover from. Unfortunately, this means he will not be available for the ODI series."
The 25-year-old, who announced himself to the Test arena with a hundred against India last year, received his maiden ODI call-up following a decent run in the Bangladesh Premier League.
The Tigers arrived in Sylhet on Thursday and upon arrival, Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal went down with illness as the 33-year-old was suffering from fever. But the left-handed opener is expected to play the first ODI on Saturday.
Ireland got their preparations off to a good start with a 78-run win against BCB XI in their only warm-up match on Wednesday.
