10 JCD men injured in 'BCL attack'
At least 10 leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal were injured in an attack allegedly by Chhatra League men near the capital's Central Shaheed Minar last night.
The attack was carried out when the Chhatra Dal men gathered there after having iftar on the premises of the Dhaka University's law faculty nearby, reports our Dhaka University correspondent.
Of the injured, Mehedi Hasan, joint secretary of Chhatra Dal's Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Huq Hall unit, were hospitalised.
Raju Ahmed, general secretary of Salimullah Muslim Hall JCD, Aman Ullah Aman, assistant secretary of DU JCD, Mansura Alam, female student affairs secretary of Chhatra Dal central unit, and activist Md Qafi took primary treatment.
Ariful Islam, general secretary of DU Chhatra Dal, alleged that Chhatra League men attacked their leaders and activists without any provocation when the JCD men were talking near the Shaheed Minar.
Riding motorcycles, about 25 to 30 Chhatra League men, came there and carried out the attack with sticks and stumps, he said.
However, Tanbir Hasan Shaikat, general secretary of DU Chhatra League, denied the allegation.
He told The Daily Star that they heard that Chhatra Dal leaders beat up two students, and the two along with several others later attacked them.
