‘Leo generates excitement’
FC Barcelona fans have once again made it clear during a La Liga match against Girona at Camp Nou on Monday that they want the GOAT back.
Barcelona supporters chanted Lionel Messi's name again after 10 minutes, representing the World Cup winner's former Barca shirt number, amid hopes he could return to his former club after his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires.
"Leo generates excitement, they have chanted his name in two games now, we'll see what happens," Barca coach Xavi told reporters.
"We are focused on this, we have to win La Liga."
Title-chasing Barcelona were held to a 0-0 draw by Girona at Camp Nou on Monday, extending their lead on Real Madrid at the top of La Liga by one point, now sitting 13 clear with 10 games remaining.
But while a La Liga title is on its way back to Camp Nou, Barcelona fans are now focused on the possible return of another footballing icon.
Supporters have been heard chanting Messi's name during previous games after Barcelona-based sports publication Mundo Deportivo suggested that it could help to tempt the Argentine World Cup winner back to the club.
The leadership headed by Joan Laporta has already publicly admitted that it is working to try to repatriate the Argentine, although for the moment there have been no indications or concrete advances on how the negotiations with Jorge Messi, representative and father of the Flea, can end.
The truth is that Messi's contract with PSG ends on June 30 and the footballer postponed the talks he had scheduled in France. In the middle, a million-dollar offer from Saudi Arabia also appeared.
