Dhaka experiences 'hottest day in 58 years'

Dhaka experienced the hottest day since 1965 today, making lives of over two crore city dwellers miserable.

The highest temperature recorded in the capital today was 40.4 degrees Celsius, Md Farman Ali, meteorological assistant at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told The Daily Star.

This is the highest temperature recorded in Dhaka since 1965, Bazlur Rashid, a meteorologist at BMD, told The Daily Star. 

In 1965, a high of 42 degrees Celsius was recorded in the capital, he added. 

The highest temperature recorded in the capital yesterday was 40.2 degrees Celsius, which was the same as that recorded exactly nine years ago on April 14, 2014.

Today's highest temperature in the country was recorded in Chuadanga at 42.2 degrees Celsius, Farman said.
