Korean film surpasses Hollywood heavyweights at box office 

"Dream," starring actors IU and Park Seo-joon, is the first Korean film in 50 days to land atop the box office, surpassing the Hollywood film, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," at the Korean box office. 

The film topped the box office on its first day of release, Wednesday, with 93,400 audience members, edging out "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," which was also released on the same day and drew 89,600 people.

"Dream" is a comedy film directed by Lee Byeong-heon, and is based on the true story of an amateur football team made up of homeless people competing in the Homeless World Cup, a football championship attended by other homeless football teams from around the world.  

"Dream" centres around Park's character, star football player Yoon Hong-dae, who accidentally starts coaching a football team with homeless players before meeting Lee So-min, played by IU, an uninterested producer filming a documentary about the team. The film also stars Ko Chang-seok, Jung Seung-kil, Lee Hyun-woo, and Yang Hyun-min as homeless football players with their own experiences.
