Play your due role in curbing dengue
The city corporation authorities in Dhaka are not taking adequate measures to control mosquitoes, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque yesterday.
"We are working with them [city corporations] relentlessly. Our researchers are also assisting them with necessary information. I hope the city corporations will not ease off its efforts [in controlling mosquitoes] and keep any lapses," the minister said.
Speaking at a discussion programme on the occasion of World Malaria Day at a city hotel, he also expressed concern over the increasing number of dengue cases across the country.
"We have all-out preparations to address the dengue crisis. Doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals are on standby and fully prepared [to tackle the situation]," he then said.
It is crucial to remain vigilant as both dengue and malaria are transmitted by mosquitoes, the minister further said.
Meanwhile, a person died and 285 others got infected with dengue in the last 24 hours till yesterday morning, reported the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With them, the total number of deaths this year rose to 29 and infections to 4,087.
At least 937 dengue patients were undergoing treatment at hospitals and 3,121 patients were released from healthcare facilities in the 24 hours.
MOBILE COURTS TO CONTROL AEDES
The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will start operating mobile courts from Sunday to control Aedes mosquitoes.
Ten executive magistrates will work with the DSCC to control the dengue virus carrier mosquitoes.
DSCC Chief Executive Officer Mizanur Rahman yesterday instructed all the executive magistrates in this connection.
"You have been posted here to conduct mobile courts within the framework of the legal rules and regulation. Just as it is important to destroy the breeding ground of Aedes mosquito for public welfare, you will also give utmost importance to the fact that common people should be more aware," he told the executive magistrates.
