BGMEA condoles murder of workers' leader Shahidul Islam

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) today condoled the murder of Shahidul Islam, a worker leader who was killed as a result of his labour rights activism in Gazipur on June 25 this year.

In a statement, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said the role of Islam for establishing the rights of garment workers will be remembered forever.

Islam was the president of the Gazipur district committee of Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers Federation.

Hassan also urged the government for bringing the killers into the book and ensure exemplary punishment for them.

Islam, 50, was beaten to death outside Prince Jacquard Sweater Ltd in Tongi Satish area.
