Jennifer Garner returning as Elektra for ‘Deadpool 3’
Jennifer Garner is set to reprise her role as Elektra in the highly anticipated film "Deadpool 3", marking her return as the Marvel Comics' assassin antiheroine character after almost two decades. Multiple sources have confirmed this exciting news to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Deadpool 3", a Marvel Studios project currently in production, will see Ryan Reynolds returning as the irreverent and fourth-wall-breaking Merc with a Mouth. Additionally, Hugh Jackman will come out of Marvel retirement to portray Wolverine once again.
Directed by Shawn Levy, this project will be the first film to feature characters from the Marvel stable that was previously owned by 20th Century Fox. Following Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019, the movie rights to these characters have returned to Marvel.
Garner originally played Elektra in 20th Century Fox's "Daredevil" in 2003, alongside Ben Affleck as the Man Without Fear. Although the film wasn't a major success, it led to a spinoff where Garner headlined her own solo film, "Elektra", two years later. While not a box office hit, the movie was noteworthy as Garner was one of the few women leading a studio comic book adaptation at that time.
Garner's involvement in "Deadpool 3" suggests the possibility of a multiverse angle, which has been rumored for the film. It is also conceivable that other characters from Marvel films produced by Fox might make appearances. Given Deadpool's meta and self-aware nature, anything is possible.
