Women’s team to stay at five-star hotel ‘despite BFF’s insolvency’
Bangladesh Football Federation's women's wing chairman Mahfuza Akter Kiron has said that BFF has arranged funds to accommodate the women's football team at Hotel InterContinental, the same hotel that visiting Nepal team are staying, despite its financial insolvency.
The AFC executive member also said the federation has taken this step in order to cheer up the footballers, who will take on Nepal in two FIFA friendlies on July 13 and 16.
"The girls were not supposed to stay at the hotel because BFF is not that solvent and the girls are also used to staying at the BFF dormitory," Kiron told a press conference at the BFF house on Wednesday.
During friendly matches in Dhaka in the past, the Bangladesh women's football teams have always stayed at the BFF dormitory while visiting teams have always been accommodated at luxurious hotels. There has been a lot of criticism over the issue in the past, which is something that might have prompted the game's local governing body to decide on accommodating them at the hotel.
"We are not solvent enough to keep the girls at the hotel. However, we are doing this so that they don't feel sad," Kiron said.
