Government employees and pensioners will get a five percent yearly special incentive starting this year, read a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Finance.

The incentive will be provided to employees of civil, self-governed and state-owned organisations; banks, insurance and financial institutions; the Border Guard Bangladesh and the police force who are under the national pay scale, reads the circular.

Every year on the first day of July, no less than Tk 1,000 will be given to the current employees and a minimum of Tk 500 to pensioners.

According to the circular, government employees who are on post-retirement leave (PRL) will get the special benefits based on their last drawn basic pay prior to the ongoing PRL.

Suspended employees will be entitled to the special benefit at a rate of five percent on 50 percent of their basic pay immediately preceding the date of suspension.

Employees will not get the benefit while on leave without pay. Moreover, the benefit will not be applicable for retired employees who have withdrawn 100 percent of their gross pension.
