Former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice trains students of Eastern University
Former United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice joined the training course that started with ten students from the Engineering faculty of Eastern University. She joined the inaugural session of the online training on July 20. The six-week-long training course titled "Obama- Chesky Voyager Project: Design for Bangladesh" was inaugurated on July 6 at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Eastern University in Ashulia, Savar.
Stanford University of the United States has organised this training program with ten students from Eastern University. Eastern has been selected by Stanford University as the first university in Bangladesh with the aim to develop relations with academia and society of African and third world countries. This is a six-week-long training program consisting of three-hour sessions each and the sessions will be held four days a week.
Former US Secretary of State's Condoleezza Rice is an American diplomat and political scientist and the current director of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. She is the first African-American woman to hold the position of the Secretary of State of the United States. She lent her hand of help and cooperation while Bangladesh was going through the great impact of the Sedor during the year 2007.
Joining as a trainer of the live session, Rice greeted the students of Eastern University and shared various experiences of her life. Students were highly impressed and felt enlightened hearing her words. Her session included training on specific subjects. The program was hosted by Itban Nafi, a student of Stanford University. He is also serving as the chief instructor and coordinator of the training course. Google Chairman John Hennessy also joined the online session of July 12.
It needs to be mentioned that the US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter De Haas, Facebook's former Chief Security Officer Alex Stamos and integrated software platform Cinder's founder Brian Fisman will join the coming sessions of the training course. State Minister for Information and Technology, Junaid Ahmed Palak; CEO of BKash, Kamal Qadir; Managing Director of Microsoft Bangladesh, Yusup Farooq; and Founder of Pathao, Hussain Ilyas, among others, will also join the next sessions from Bangladesh. Apart from this, senior officials from several international organisations from India will join the upcoming sessions as well.
Prof. Dr Sharif Moniruzzaman Shiraji, chairperson, Department of Civil Engineering, Eastern University is coordinating the training sessions on behalf of the University.
