Promising archer Rubel goes down fighting
Bangladesh archer Hakim Ahmed Rubel exited from the pre-quarterfinals of the Men's Recurve Individual in World Archery Championships in Berlin on Thursday after suffering a defeat against fourth-seed Kim De Deok of South Korea.
Rubel put up a good fight but ended up losing 4-6 against Deok, who took the first two sets setting a 4-0 lead but Rubel staged a remarkable comeback to clinch the next two sets as he levelled the score at 4-4.
Deok, however, took the fifth and final set by 27-26 points.
Rubel beat Stefanovic Mihajlo of Serbia 6-5 and Kresala Josef of Check Republic 6-2 in the first and second rounds respectively.
Rubel showed promise in the event but his compatriots Ram Krishna Saha and Diya Siddique were eliminated from the first round. Krishna suffered a 3-7 points set defeat against Brazilian Zwick Ely Matheus, while Diya Siddique lost 2-6 against Gnorienga Catalina of USA in the first round of the Women's Recurve Individual event.
