Jamal happy to score on Sol de Mayo debut
Bangladesh captain Jamal Bhuiyan scored on his debut as Sol de Mayo beat Germinal 2-1 in Argentina's third division fixture yesterday.
The 33-year-old, who wore the captain's armband in his debut match at the Sol de Mayo Stadium, buried a spotkick in the 81st minute as his side beat Germinal 2-1 in the Torneo de Federal A League.
Earlier, Argentine forward Fernando Valdebenito gave Sol de Mayo the lead at the half hour mark. Germinal pulled one back three minutes before the end of stipulated time but Sol de Mayo held on to secure all three points and move to fifth in the nine-team points table.
"Today was my first match. It was very cold – 3 to 4 degrees (Celsius) and very windy. But the most important thing is we bagged three points," Jamal said in a video message after the game.
"I scored a goal which was satisfying. A lot of Bangladeshis came to support me, so overall I'm very happy," the midfielder added.
Sol de Mayo will play their next match on September 9, while Jamal will be back in Bangladesh on Wednesday to join the camp for next month's FIFA friendlies against Afghanistan.
