Almost two lanes of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the capital’s Shanir Akhra are occupied by dirt and debris from construction work. Besides, there is no room even for pedestrians in the densely populated area.

A yard of Bakolia Government High School covered with stagnant water and trash in Chattogram. The assistant headmaster of the school said the yard remains under water almost the entire rainy season, making it a breeding ground for mosquitos. He said they have written to the higher authorities many times over the last 15 years for a solution. The photo was taken last week.
