Two assistant sub-inspectors of Chandgaon Police Station were today closed in connection with the death of former ACC official Sayed Mohammad Shahidullah, who died in police custody on Tuesday night.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police closed the two police officials -- Md Yousuf Ali and Md ATM Sohel Rana – and attached them to CMP Dampara police line, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-PR) of CMP Spina Rani.

MA Masud, additional commissioner (admin and finance), signed the order, reports our Chattogram correspondent.

ASIs Md Yousuf and Md ATM Rana arrested Shahidullah and brought him to Chandgaon Police Station on Tuesday night.

Shahidullah, a former deputy director of Anti-Corruption Commission, died in police custody the same night after cops allegedly did not let his family members give the 65-year-old man medicine needed for his heart condition, family sources said.

Police refuted the allegation and said officers took Shahidullah to a hospital after he fell ill.

Family accused police of showing sheer negligence and torturing Shahidullah after his arrest, leading to his death.

CMP yesterday formed a three-member committee led by a deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch to investigate the allegations and come up with a report in three days.
