Aminbazar grid failure causes nightlong power cuts in parts of Dhaka
Parts of Dhaka and Savar saw power outages for around one to three hours due to grid failure early today.
A 230kV circuit breaker burst around 12:45am, forcing the Aminbazar grid to fail, said ABM Badruddoza Khan, spokesperson of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB).
The surrounding areas of Aminbazar, Savar, Mirpur, Kallyanpur, Agargaon, Mohammadpur, Satmasjid Road, and Dhanmondi faced power disruption as a result, he added.
"We started the restoration process at 1:26am," the spokesperson said, adding that the connection to the Gono Bhaban was restored first.
"Then, the other connections were restored one by one till 4.30am," added the PGCB spokesperson.
He said the interruption at the Aminbazar grid lasted for around 45 minutes, but the process of restoring power supply to all areas under the grid was quite long.
A circuit breaker is an electrical switch designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overcurrent or overload or short circuit.
People suffered without electricity from midnight till dawn in many areas. A resident of Dhanmondi area said that even though it was raining, the power outage made conditions unbearable.
"We couldn't sleep the whole night due to the suffocating conditions," he said, adding that the connection was restored there at around 5.30 am.
