Honoured to be a part of the Bangabandhu biopic: Chanchal Chowdhury
Multifaceted star Chanchal Chowdhury's new movie "Mujib: The Making of a Nation" is releasing on October 13. In this movie, he played the character of Sheikh Lutfar Rahman, the father of Bangabandhu, when he was middle-aged.
The popular actor recently spoke to The Daily Star about this intense new biopic about the Father of our Nation, directed by Shyam Benegal.
Chanchal Chowdhury revealed that he got an offer to be in the film towards the end of it. "I agreed without considering how many scenes I would be in and how profound my character was. As an actor, I just wanted to participate in the biopic of Bangabandhu's," he attested.
He further added that this is the biggest project based on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, saying, "He led us towards this independent nation and freedom. A sense of responsibility, therefore, compelled me to be a part of Bangabandhu's biopic."
"I have always wanted a major project about Bangabandhu to be made. Apart from that, Shyam Benegal is a prodigious director of the subcontinent. The overall opportunity felt like a chance to be a part of history, to me. I hold Bangabandhu's ideal in high regard. Not only did the man work for his country all his life, but he was killed because of it," explained Chanchal Chowdhury.
Regarding Benegal, the actor said, "I went to India for several days and filmed. I did think that a substantial director like Shyam Benegal might not attend to the sets every day and that his assistant would carry out most of the work. But his work ethic left me in awe. He was present for the filming of every scene and I was impressed by the love and care he poured into finishing his work."
In response to being asked about his first day of filming, Chanchal Chowdhury said, "My personal sentiments helped me film with a lot of emotions. Perhaps all Bangladeshi artistes followed a similar route, and the director understood this matter. The first day of filming will definitely remain memorable for me."
The actor concluded the chat by expressing that he is pleased to be a part of history, on the basis of the historical film.
On the other hand, Chanchal Chowdhury is currently filming a new drama "Parallel" by director Ejaz Munna.
His film "Padatik", based on the life of Mrinal Sen, is awaiting release. It was directed by Srijit Mukherji.
