The residents of capital's Adabor area are experiencing internet and cable TV service disruption for more than 24 hours following a dispute between two groups of service providers.

Locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between two groups over establishing supremacy in this area to provide internet and cable TV connections.

Around 15,000 users of the area have been cut from accessing the internet, Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) said in a press statement today.

The ISPAB also blamed local Jubo League leader Ariful Islam Tuhin for cutting all the connections in the area.

"Some occupiers led by Ariful Islam Tuhin cut the internet connections of Baitul Aman Housing, Monsurabad Housing and Sunibir Housing yesterday to grab the business alone," reads the press statement issued by ISPAB Secretary Bijoy Kumar Paul.

When they went to reconnect it, they (occupiers) stopped the workers from doing so, the statement said, adding the ISPAB decided to halt all the reconnection efforts until a permanent solution.

ISPAB President Md Emdadul Hoque told The Daily Star that, "We want a permanent solution. They [occupiers] had cut the connections earlier. They have no license but want to grab business in the area."

Asked if they have filed any cases or taken any steps, Emdadul said, "They have muscle power and good connections with the local government as well as with the police. That is why we are still waiting."

Contacted, Ariful Islam Tuhin, former convener of Adabor Thana Jubo League, said, "I don't know who did it. I am not involved with the internet connection business. I do business with cable TV connections. My connections have also been cut and the customers are complaining that they are not able to see the World Cup."

Shaker Mohammad Zubayer, Officer-in-Charge of Adabor Police Station, said, the problems related to the internet connections are not under their jurisdiction.

"No complaint was filed in this regard," he said.
