'Why are the media here?': Liton disgruntled by media presence in Pune
"Why are the media here? Why are they taking my photo?" Bangladesh opener Liton Das vented to the security staff of the Conrad Hotel in Pune on Sunday.
As the Bangladesh team had no training or activity for the next two days in Pune, the cricketers enjoyed a day off today which is why members of the Bangladesh media were present at the hotel.
The Bangladesh team reached Pune yesterday and will play their fourth World Cup match against hosts India on October 19. They will have two off-days before their first training session at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on October 17.
While a few of the cricketers, including Taskin Ahmed, Towhid Hridoy, and Mahmudullah Riyad greeted the eager media personnel, Liton's behaviour towards the big contingent of media members from Bangladesh rather reflected the Tigers' bleak performance on the field.
Following the incident, the hotel security requested the keen journalists to leave the hotel saying that the players were not comfortable with their presence.
Despite the other teams having welcomed the media presence promptly, Bangladesh, on the other hand, have done quite the opposite when dealing with their media duties. Shakib Al Hasan and Co have barely interacted with the country's keen media and Liton's attitude towards them suggests that Bangladesh have gone into their shell following heavy defeats against England and New Zealand owing to dismal performances and are opting not to face the media.
