The 43rd edition of the international photography competition, Leica Oskar Barnack Award (LOBA) ceremony, recently awarded a US-based Bangladeshi photographer, Ismail Ferdous, with its prestigious award this year.

The three-day-long photography event began on October 11 at the famous Leitz Park of Wetzlar City, Germany and came to a close on October 13.

Leica Oskar Barnack Awards have been celebrated since the 1980s. The festive event features photographs from around the globe which also get exhibited on the first day exhibition of the programme.

The photography contest handed out awards in two categories, namely – the main category and the newcomer category.

This year, Ismail Ferdous's "Beach Series" won the Leica Oskar Barnack Award in the main category of the competition. Ismail's "Beach Series" portrays diverse people visiting Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar Sea Beach area, looking for a little break from their hectic lives.

The award also honours the recipients with an induction into the Leica Hall of Fame. Moreover, as the winner of the LOBA, Ismail had earned a monetary prize of 40,000 euros and camera equipment worth 10,000 euros.

Apart from the main category award which was claimed by Ismail Ferdous, the newcomer award was bagged by a Chinese photographer, Ziye Le.
