Five-day furniture fair kicks off in Dhaka
A five-day furniture fair began in Dhaka today to promote home accessories both locally and globally.
Bangladesh Furniture Industries Owners Association (BFIOA) has organised the exhibition at the International Convention Centre Bashundhara.
A total of 185 stalls of 30 companies, including Hatil, Akhtar, Omega Furniture, Navana, Pertex, Regal, Nadia, and Brothers, participated in the fair.
Bangladesh has 17 crore people and about four crore of them have the purchasing power equal to that of the people living in Europe, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said while inaugurating the event as the chief guest.
These four-crore people can buy high-end products at higher prices, he added.
However, the manufacturers should consider the middle-income people too, the minister said.
He also urged the manufacturers to increase the export of furniture along with meeting the local demand.
The fair will be open from 8 am to 10 pm until October 21.
Chairman of Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners Association Selim H Rahman presided over the event.
