Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus has tendered his resignation as board director to the National Sports Council (NSC) today.

Jalal was one of the two directors, alongside Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby, nominated to the cricket board by the NSC.

"I have resigned as director for the greater good of cricket," Jalal told The Daily Star today.

The NSC will now nominate a new director to replace Jalal.

Meanwhile, Sajjadul said that he was contacted by the NSC secretary in the morning, who asked him to step down from his position.

Sajjadul informed The Daily Star that he will not follow Yunus's lead.

"The secretary called me in the morning. He said that I would have to resign from both the councillorship and directorship. I told him that the NSC nominated me as a Councillor for four years, and by that equation, I am a director. So they should decide what they want to do with this Councillorship and Directorship and then inform me of their decision," Sajjadul said.

"I told them, I was nominated at the cricket board by the NSC. If they have taken a decision regarding me, they should just inform me," Sajjadul told The Daily Star.

Earlier, sports adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan had said that they are in contact with different stakeholders to solve the crisis at BCB.

Several BCB board directors, including president Nazmul Hasan Papon, have gone into hiding since the fall of the Awami League government in the face of mass protests. It has been reported that the BCB president wants to step down from his position.

Former Bangladesh captain and chief selector Faruk Ahmed is likely to be nominated by the NSC to replace Jalal in the board of directors, which would make him eligible to get elected as the new president once Papon resigns.
