Jatiya Party's former lawmaker Shameem Haider Patwary said that no one has the right to snatch away their rights as their party is a registered political party and has the freedom to hold assembly as per the country's constitution.

He said, "People did not burn our office, a vested quarter who were aggrieved with us previously set fire here last night."

"There is no state of emergency imposed, and the constitution is not suspended. So no one has the right to snatch away our constitutional rights. Some people obstructed us illegally and burnt our party office. The state and the government are responsible for it."

He made these remarks before the media after leaders and activists visited the Jatiya Party headquarters at the capital's Kakrail this afternoon.

The JP office was set on fire and vandalised last night by a group of people marching under the banner of "Anti-fascist students, workers, and masses".

He also said, "Everyone has the right to participate in politics and assemble. We are a registered political party, and we have the right to hold assembly as per the constitution. We do not obstruct anyone from assembling, so why will they obstruct us?"

"If someone obstructs us illegally and burns our party office, then the liability is of the state and the government because giving protection to a political party's office is the responsibility of the government. The safety has to be ensured by the government as we have been paying taxes as a registered political party," he added.
