The Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram will remain open for 24 hours for four days a week in this winter so that aircraft can land at this airport in case of dense fog at the Dhaka airport.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh today directed the authorities of Chattogram airport regarding keeping open the airport for 24 hours for four days a week in this winter.

CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan gave this direction while visiting the Chattogram airport today.

He said Shah Amanat Airport will act as an alternative airport if any aircraft failed to land at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in winter due to dense fog.

The CAAB chief explained that in the past, flights were unable to land in Dhaka due to heavy fog had to be diverted to airports in other countries.

This year, however, Shah Amanat International Airport will serve as an alternative option, staying open round the clock for four days a week.

Similarly, Sylhet's Osmani International Airport will operate for 24 hours for the remaining three days of the week, ensuring that flights can safely land at either of these airports when necessary.

During the visit, the CAAB chairman inspected several facilities, including the passenger terminal, lounge, runway, apron, new boarding bridges, children's park, and driveways, along with other ongoing projects.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress of these projects and expressed hope that once completed, they would significantly enhance passenger services.
