Meghna Group tissue factory fire under control after 4.5hrs

The fire that broke out at a tissue manufacturing factory of Meghna Group in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila early today, has been brought under control after around four and a half hours.

The fire started around 5:00am, and 12 firefighting units managed to bring it under control around 9:30am, said Abdul Mannan, deputy assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence.

No casualties have been reported so far, he added.

The four-storey building, where the raw materials were stored, caught fire in the morning. Workers initially tried to put out the fire with the help of their own firefighting team but failed as the fire spread quickly, said a worker of the factory.

Later, they informed the fire service.
