Overcharging: Fertiliser trader jailed for 6 months
A mobile court sentenced a fertiliser trader to six months imprisonment for selling agro inputs at higher prices than the rate fixed by the government.
The incident took place at Nasir Mandal Haat in Panchagarh's Boda upazila on Thursday night.
The convicted trader is Al Mamun, 40, a fertiliser trader of the village bazar.
Shahrier Nazir, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate, said the mobile court, acting on a tip-off, raided Mamun's shop at the bazar and seized 25 sacks each of triple superphosphate and muriate of potash (MOP) that were being illegally hoarded.
The court pronounced the verdict on the spot as the trader acknowledged selling per sack of fertiliser for Tk 1,800 instead of the government rate of Tk 1,300.
The same court also fined Nurnabi Majumder Traders Tk 2 lakh on charge of black marketing the agro products through brokers instead of selling the items directly to the growers, the UNO said.
After conducting the drive, the court handed over the convicted trader to police.
