Only passengers with MRT, Rapid Passes being allowed into Mirpur 11 station

Some passengers were unable to enter the platforms at the Mirpur 11 metro rail station this morning due to a shortage of single journey tickets.

They complained that only passengers with MRT cards or Rapid Passes were allowed to enter the platforms.

Ratul Islam, a private service holder who uses the service regularly, told this newspaper that when he reached the Mirpur 11 station around 11:00am, he found most of the entry gates were closed.

"One of the guards told me that only pass holders can enter the platforms as single journey tickets were not available," he said.

Ahsan Ullah Sharifi, deputy director (public relations) of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line 6, said there is some shortage of signal journey tickets that may cause the problem.

He said most of the passengers in the morning headed towards Motijheel use up the single journey tickets, causing a shortage at some stations.

The authorities are working to address the issues by collecting single journey tickets available at other stations.

Besides, 1.95 lakh single journey tickets will be added within January next year to mitigate shortage with 70,000 of them coming within December.

Earlier, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd, the operating agency of metro rail, said over two lakh single journey tickets went missing since the metro rail service was introduced in December 2022, causing disruptions in operation.
