Photography competition commemorates student movement at BRAC University

BRAC University recently hosted the Frames of Freedom photography competition, an event organised by the BRAC University Marketing Association (BUMA) to honour the student movement of July 2024. The initiative aimed to provide a platform for students and amateur photographers to display their talents while reflecting on the theme, "Remembering the Days of Our 2nd Independence." The competition was sponsored by MACES, a leading education consultancy in Bangladesh, known for supporting student-led initiatives.

BUMA collaborated with six clubs across various universities and colleges to organise the event, including the Army-IBA Business & Leadership Club, Nirban: An Artistic Platform for IUTians, BUP Photography Society, Rotaract Club of East West University, Photography Club of BNMPC, and SAGC Photography Club. This partnership allowed the competition to reach a wide audience and engage participants from diverse academic institutions.

The competition featured submissions capturing moments connected to the theme, evaluated by judges Tanvir Murad Topu, Head of Photography at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, and Shafiqul Alam Kiron, Photographer at Map Photo Agency. An award ceremony and photography exhibition took place at BRAC University on 5 December, where the top 50 entries were displayed.

Prizes were awarded as follows: Nishat Tasnim Nazia of Shaheed Bir Uttam Anwar Girls College won first place and a prize of BDT 20,000. Aditya Das of Bhawal Badre Alam Govt. College was the runner-up, receiving BDT 15,000. The Popular Choice Award, determined by the highest number of likes on Facebook, went to Mominur Jaman of Dhaka Residential Model College, who received BDT 10,000. The event was attended by notable figures, including MACES Managing Partner Rouham Manzoor, BRACU Registrar Dr. David Dowland, faculty members Dr. Syed Far Abid Hossain and Rubana Ahmed, and Joint Director of OCA Tahsina Rahman.
