Hundreds of protesters from various outfits, including Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), yesterday marched towards the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi for what they said were atrocities and human rights violations against minorities in the country.

The Delhi Civil Society, along with numerous other organisations, attended the programme at 11:00am.

However, the procession was stopped at the Teen Murti roundabout in south Delhi, far from the Bangladeshi mission on Radhakrishnan Marg in the capital's high-security diplomatic enclave Chanakyapuri, where police put up barricades.

The protesters did not proceed any further.

The demonstrators demanded the United Nations Human Rights Council's intervention in the matter and called upon Bangladesh to stop what they said were atrocities on Hindus.

Security was beefed up in front of the Bangladesh High Commission.

The Assistant High Commission in Agartala was vandalised last week.

"We enhanced security arrangements outside the Bangladesh High Commission in view of the protest march. No one will be allowed to breach law and order," said a senior police officer.

Meanwhile, a large number of Indian Americans marched from the White House to the US Capitol on Monday over alleged atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh.

Raising slogans like "We want Justice" and "Protect Hindus," the peaceful demonstrators urged the Biden administration and the incoming Trump administration to ask the interim government in Bangladesh to take steps to protect Hindus but also take action against those responsible for this, a PTI report from Washington said.

Organizers of the march Bangladeshi Diaspora organizations and HinduACTion, demanded that the companies in the US stop buying garments from Bangladesh which is heavily dependent on its exports to the US.
